Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
