PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.
The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.
Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.
The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.
Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.
From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.
The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
